Aloud
Cover story
"Aloud's cycle has been buoyed from the beginning by their superb songwriting and performing skills. Jen de la Osa is a dynamo on stage and on record. She's a petite woman with a larger-than-life voice and her guitar playing seemingly has its own personality with all its side notes and pick-slides. Her vocals are one of the hallmarks of Aloud's sound; powerful enough to blow the doors down, yet accurate enough to blow just the right doors down. Partner Beguiristain's work has its own personality, one that counterpoints de la Osa's bombast and raw power. Whereas de la Osa rides a chariot of blood and thunder, Beguiristain simply sidles up to your ear with an almost conversational style of lyric and melody."

What to do Tuesday
Show preview
"Aloud is a Boston band with boy-girl vocals and big hooks,
but they're more unpredictable than the paint-by-numbers
pop band that comes to mind. Jen de la Osa sings like
Heartless Bastards' Erika Wennerstrom and is nearly as
sassy. Henry Beguiristain isn't as endearing, but he
sounds great when the pair interlocks in harmonic bliss.
The overall feel comes off much like a slightly bluesy take
on the New Pornographers' sugar rush pop — a worthy
reason to venture to Bernie's, 1896 N. High St., to see
them play tonight with Help Is On The Way and Keith Jenkins & the Moving Parts."

Article
"Boston’s Aloud is appropriately enigmatic for a male/female-fronted rock band with a white,
red, and black color scheme. Co-lead vocalists/guitarists Jen de la Osa and Henry
Beguiristain have played together for the last 13 years... and though
their rock is not so feedback blues-driven, Aloud’s musical energy does recall the White
Stripes, if only there were two Jacks, no Meg."

"Henry Beguiristain could make elegantly sad young music - so could Jen de la Osa - but when he contemplates being "fatalistic," she rhymes it with "sadistic." Aloud's "Fan The Fury" updates X's Exene Cervenka and John Doe's dynamically domestic civil war, now spilling into the streets and vice versa, as hyper-aware, media-bombarded harmonies and discord fall into place and fly by, between the sheets and screens. The personal and the political trust and bust, while Aloud's co-leaders' voices and guitars insist, “The end
will be our beginning,” once again."

"Everything I've read about this band's live show suggests a "fiery" "chaotic" and "high-energy" performance. The tunes seem to be all of the above, with a driving rhythm section and bluesy, distorted guitars. Singer Jen de la Osa has some really exceptional pipes, at times forlorn and dreamy like Fiona Apple and at other times roaring like Grace Slick or maybe even a slightly more lilting Janis Joplin. She trades off vocal duties with longtime collaborator Henry Beguirstain who has a more modern rock sound."

of Jen de la Osa and Henry Beguiristain, the Boston-based combo
Aloud somehow succeeds in uniting chamber pop with rock anthems."

The Search for White Jeans and Other Adventures with Aloud
Interview
"Aloud played The Luxury’s CD release at the Paradise back in July, which continues to be one of the most talked about Boston events of 2009, and Jessie and I recently caught up with them after their sound check at TT the Bear’s Place before their high-impact show on August 6th with The Lights Out. Henry Beguiristain and Jen de la Osa, the pair behind all things Aloud, left Miami for Boston nearly ten years ago in order to capitalize on their artistic enthusiasm and mutual appreciation for meticulously crafted lyrics and songwriting. They haven’t looked back since."

Song Review
Aloud is one of those groups that has the luxury of having two exquisitely talented vocalists in Henry Beguiristain and Jen de la Osa. This embarrassment of vocal riches means Aloud has to choose who's going to sing lead, but the two work together so well in this particular track that you barely notice the differentiation.

Center Stage with Aloud - Part 1
Interview
"Jen de la Osa and Henry Beguiristain have been writing, singing, and playing guitar together since they were young. Today they are the core of Boston-based Aloud. The songs on their sophomore album Fan the Fury are an engaging collection of observations, each expressed with urgency and true emotion."

Song Review
"If Neil Young had Mother Nature on the run in the 1970s, Jen de la Osa and Henry Beguiristain of Aloud provide an update of maybe not her status but their own in ‘Hard Up In The 2000s.’ The drums and the chord progression plod ahead like a heart monitor as Doctor de la Osa gives her own prognosis on life in the current century. The once-per-measure piano chords sound out a dirge akin to John Lennon's “Mother,” minus Lennon's atonal primal screaming but plus singer de la Osa's powerful vocal delivery."

All Things Aloud
Article
"Aloud is, through all the experiment, mood swings, and live shows, a rock band by the Webster’s definition. Their trick is that they’re aware of where and when they are and embrace the warts as well as the gold of the times. They are a statement that through all the bells and whistles at work on music, the heart of American youth remains in the 4 piece, verse-chorus-verse, kids in their mom’s basement and under furbished practice space, rock and roll ideology."

Live Review
"The four band members demonstrate striking chemistry onstage. Beguiristain occasionally sidles up to Osa to sing into the same microphone, and the pair often meet center-stage to play guitar face to face.… The music is raw rock with a hard punk edge to certain tunes, all rooted around a classic Americana core."

"The brainchild of lead guitarist Henry Beguiristain and Jen de La
Osa, the band combines two voices for triumphant harmonies. Individually,
each singer brings something different to the table. De La Osa's deep,
almost Joplin-like voice adds thickness to the songs, while Beguiristain's
vocals steadies the John Lennon-inspired tracks."
